Christ the King

“This is the king of the jews” Luke 23:38
The Lord hears the cry of the poor….
Do WE??
These are difficult economic times; however, they are even more difficult
for the poor. (It is a well known fact that during difficult times,
when we have less, the poor often have nothing!) As we began to write the
gift tags with the names and gift requests for the Giving Tree, we found more
and more teenagers who are asking for items such as underwear, socks, t-shirts,
sweatshirts, etc. Mothers are asking for blankets and warm clothing for their
babies.
Life Teen members plan to host a Christmas party at each of two preschools
(both of these consist of youngsters whose families fall below the poverty
line). A gift will be given to each child personally. Watch for notes/letters
expressing the experiences of these Life Teen members.
Please consider picking up a tag or two from the giving tree and purchasing
a gift for someone who is struggling. We will also offer the opportunity to
purchase food certificates for the Giving Tree (we ask that these be in $20.00
increments or less).
You can’t get out and shop? If that is your situation and you wish to help
out, please put your money (check made out to St. Joseph’s Giving Tree) in an
envelope, put it in the collection or drop off at the rectory, and one of our “Giving
Tree Shoppers” will be happy to do the “leg” work for you!
Let’s all work together to answer the “cry of the poor” this
Christmas!
Gratefully,
“The Giving Tree”
Committee
