“You shall love the Lord your God”
Matthew 22:37
The souls of the just
are in the hand of God, And no torment shall
touch them. They seemed, in the
view of the foolish, to be dead; And their passing away
was thought an affliction And they’re going
forth from us, utter destruction. But they are at peace. for if before men,
indeed they be punished, yet is their hope full
of immortality; chastised a little,
they shall be greatly blessed, because God tried them and found them worthy
of himself. As gold in the
furnace, he proved them, and as sacrificial offerings
he took them to himself. In the time of their
visitation they shall shine, and shall dart about
as sparks through stubble; they shall judge
nations and rule over peoples, and the Lord shall be
their King forever. Those who trust in him
shall understand truth, and the faithful shall
abide with him in love; because grace and
mercy are with his holy ones, and his care is with
his elect. - Book of Wisdom Dear Community of Saint Joseph’s; Next weekend the Church celebrates the Feast of All Souls at all the weekend liturgies. The Church designates November 2 as the day
we remember those who have gone before us to the Kingdom of God. The readings at the liturgy and the music
will reflect that spirit of remembrance and thanksgiving for our family and
friends who have died. With that in mind, I would like to invite you to bring a
photo or memento of someone from your life history you wish to remember on this
feast. After the homily we will invite
you to bring the photos or symbols to the front of the altar and we will place
candles and pray in gratitude for the blessings these people have brought into
our lives and we will pray for the continual repose of their souls. This ritual could be a great opportunity for healing and
solace and I encourage you to participate on Sunday and also to consider making
a visit to the place where your family members have been laid to rest. Eternal rest grant unto them Oh Lord ~ And may perpetual light shine upon them~ Father Matt Pennington Pastor
