“Is it lawful to paytax to the Emporer”
Matthew 22:17
Dear Community of Saint Joseph’s; On October 15 we celebrated the feast day of Saint Teresa of
Avila. She is a wonderfully colorful Saint from the sixteenth
century who had a tremendous faith in the midst of a tumultuous relationship
with God. She wrote a prayer at one
point in her life that speaks to being calm in the midst of uncertainty and
anxiety. I use this prayer regularly
and share it with you here as we are currently in the midst of a nerve-wracking
time with our economy. I hope it brings
you solace and encouragement during this stressful time. Let nothing disturb you Let nothing frighten you All things are passing God never changes Patient endurance attains all things which God possesses In nothing is wanting Alone God suffices Be comforted by the knowledge that God is with us in all
circumstances and that we, like our ancestors before us, will survive even this
time of trial by continuing to be a hopeful and faithful people even in the
midst of adversity. Let nothing disturb you Let nothing frighten you All things are passing God never changes Saint Teresa of Avila Father Matt Pennington Pastor
