28th Sunday in Ordinary Time

"He went away sad because he had many possessions"
Mark 10:22
Dear Community of Saint Joseph’s; When I was a child the seasons of the year seemed to stretch
on forever. I remember summer being
eternal and the fall and winter and spring seasons were like a lifetime. Now I experience time as flying by with
extraordinary speed. It is amazing to
me that I am writing this bulletin letter in the middle of October – in a blink
it will be Advent. In order to not
allow the year to slip past you I encourage you to take advantage of all the
many opportunities we are offering here at Saint Joseph’s. Professor Michael Doherty is offering a four-week course on the
Old Testament, searching for the signs for the coming of Jesus. This is a great occasion to enroll in a
beginning Scripture Study on a component of the Bible that can be perceived as
esoteric. Professor Doherty is an
excellent teacher and I know you would consider your time well spent. As we draw closer to the month of November
we will be celebrating the Feast of All
Souls – this feast honors those who have died. We will be celebrating a special Eucharist in memory of the dead
on Monday November 2 at 7:00 in the evening.
Please bring a photo of the person you would like to honor that night. On Thanksgiving Day we will begin our day of
gratitude with mass at nine in the morning – early enough to reserve the
majority of the day for your family feast and activities. Please mark these dates on your family
calendar. This fall you might also consider becoming a sponsor for the
RCIA or perhaps you might serve the parish as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist at our Sunday
celebrations? We are always in need of
parishioners to participate in the Perpetual Adoration Ministry. We will soon be preparing our Christmas
Giving Tree ministry that provides Christmas gifts to families in need. At Saint Joseph’s there are potent
opportunities to be involved and enhance your spirituality through education
and service. This is a great time to
connect and meet some remarkable people who every day serve God and
neighbor. Don’t wait for some day – the
way things are going it will soon be summer and before you know it - time for
the Golf Tournament, which reminds me………. Father Matt Pennington Pastor
