Body and Blood of Christ

"'Take this,' He said 'This is my body'"
Mark 14:22
Final Words… I would like to
speak directly to people with disabilities.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s ADD, CP, Downs, paraplegia or
quadriplegia or any other disability, you have incredible gifts and you don’t
need to wait for the elevator to participate in the ministries here at St.
Joseph’s. If you sing, join
one of the music groups. If you have a
wonderful smile, be a greeter or a Eucharistic Minister. If you have a nice speaking voice, be a
lector. Lectoring doesn’t require reading from the Ambo—a microphone can be
attached to wheelchairs, lap boards can hold lectionaries, and there are even
brail lectionaries for the blind. Or perhaps
you have secretly yearned to be an altar server—this just might be your day! If you feel you
are being called, please don’t say, “I can’t do that.” Say “I think I can” and call the office or
the ministry coordinator listed in the bulletin and talk it over with her or
him to see how you can participate. The
coordinator can’t know your gifts by looking at you—you are going to have to
come forward. Our ministries are
incomplete without your gifts. Of
course this applies to everyone—not just people with disabilities. If your
disability is such that joining one of the active participation ministries is
out of the question, please become an ardent prayer support person. You might commit to your favorite ministry
by calling the coordinator and telling them of your intention to pray and give
them the opportunity to contact you when special prayers are needed. Prayer is one of the greatest gifts you can
share with the “action people” who implement our ministries. God bless you and
thank you for all your love and support to the People with Disabilities
Ministry. Gay Pollock
